CHAMP is a division of the War Amps organization. It provides prosthetic devices and other services to child amputees (Champs) and their families. Pictured below are some of the children from the Maritimes that benefit from the CHAMP program.
One prosthetic arm cost thousands of dollars and, for a child amputee, must be replaced often as the child outgrows the device. This can become a very costly affair for the family. CHAMP provides these services without any financial help at all from any government organization.
Over the past nine years, the Defenders have raised over $75,000 for CHAMP. The total amount raised in 1999 was $10,500! All this is done by an organization that has a local membership of just under 50 members and a national membership of under 150 in 1999!
